River toad (Phrynoides asper) is a large toad with warty, dark brownish to blackish stout body. It has inconspicuous ‘x’ mark on the back between the round-to oval-shaped paratoid glands in young. This species is usually dark brown, gray or black in color, with black spotting ventrally. Species : Phrynoidis aspera Size (snout to vent) : Female 10 cm, Male 12 cm. This is the second largest of the Bufo genus in the region, after the Giant River Toad Phrynoidis juxtaspera. Females can reach a maximum size of 12 cm (snout-to-vent); with the addition of powerful back legs this toad can appear very large indeed.
